1000 Books Before Kindergarden
Reading to your child before kindergarten is the best way to prepare them to learn to read. 1,000 books before kindergarten is a surprisingly achievable goal. Those who complete the program will receive a free book and a certificate of completion. There are multiple ways to track your books:
- READsquared- READsquared is an easy way to track the books you read. The library uses READsquared to offer many different reading challenge programs, so you can log everything in one place.
- 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten App – The 1000 Foundation also offers an app to track your books.
- Paper logs – Pick up a log sheet at the library.
Book Besties
A book club for ages 7-13. Read any book, then come to book club to discuss, snack, and do an activity.
In-Person Resources and Activities
While the library has an extensive children’s book collection, we also provide other in-person resources and activities. Every month a new scavenger hunt is hidden throughout the children’s area to allow the children to explore the area and learn about the hidden images. AWL computers are loaded with educational and entertaining games. Coloring pages are always provided, as are take home crafts so that the fun doesn’t have to end when you leave the library. Interactive floor displays allow children to explore while enjoying activities such as jumping on logs, following paint trails, or avoiding snakes.
Children’s Online Resources
Need an article or encyclopedia entry for homework? Find them online! Don’t worry if the teacher says you can’t use websites as a source; each of these articles has a citation for the original printed item.
